Can You Really Shower With Body Jewelry On?

The honest answer: it depends on what you're wearing. Here's what actually matters.

You're in the shower and suddenly remember you're wearing that new body chain. Should you take it off? The short answer is no — not if it's made from the right material. But let's talk about what actually matters here, because not all jewelry is created equal.

Most body jewelry falls into two camps: the stuff that corrodes, and the stuff that doesn't. Cheap plated metals, regular stainless steel, and anything with a trendy coating will tarnish, discolor, and fall apart when water hits them repeatedly. It's not dramatic — it just slowly fades and loses its shine. All our pieces are made from 316L stainless steel, which is waterproof and designed to handle daily life without breaking down.

316L is the medical-grade material used in surgical implants. It resists corrosion, doesn't tarnish, and won't irritate your skin even if you're wearing it 24/7. That means shower water, saltwater, chlorine, sweat — none of it will damage the metal. You can wear your Zodiac Snake Belly Chain through a beach day and a shower without worrying.

The real question isn't whether you should shower with your jewelry on. It's whether your jewelry can actually handle it. If you paid €5 for something, it probably can't. If you're wearing quality pieces made to last, water is genuinely not the enemy.

That said, there are practical reasons to take jewelry off sometimes. Soap and shampoo residue can build up on chains if you never remove them. Hot water doesn't damage 316L, but temperature changes over time mean the metal expands and contracts slightly. And honestly? Your body jewelry will last longer and stay cleaner if you give it a break now and then.

Chlorine and saltwater are fine for 316L, but if you swim daily in a chlorinated pool, rinsing your jewelry with fresh water afterward keeps salt and chlorine from accumulating on the surface. Same goes for the beach. Quick rinse, quick dry, and you're good. It takes thirty seconds and keeps your pieces looking new for years.

If you do shower with your jewelry on, just dry it occasionally — especially the clasps and joints where water can sit. A quick pat with a towel stops moisture from sitting in crevices. For pieces like our Bridal Shoulder Chain, which has more intricate links, a gentle dry-off keeps everything looking pristine.

The honest truth: you can shower with your body jewelry on if it's made from proper stainless steel. But whether you should is up to you. We made our pieces to be worn every day through real life — showers, sweat, salt water, all of it. That's the whole point. Wear them, enjoy them, and don't stress about the small things.
